An Introduction to Acting

Wednesdays: 7 - 8:45   PM            

Take your first steps into the world of acting and discover the craft in a lively, practical and supportive atmosphere. Ideal for those with little or no acting experience, this 7-week course gets you up on your feet exploring acting techniques and methods, scene study, improv, character development and so much more. Whether you simply wish to try something new, perhaps want to build confidence or are serious about acting as a profession, you will find this course fun, social and rewarding. ​Grow as an individual by bringing out that creative side of you...who knows where it will lead!

Acting Level 2: The Actors' Showcase

Thursdays: 7 - 8:45 PM                

The class that ends with a performance! This unique course offers participants an opportunity to develop a practical process for acting --- through preparation, rehearsal and right up to the performance. This 7 week course is an excellent opportunity to build upon your existing skills. Participants will work with a director on a one-act play or scene showcase throughout the 7 week course and perform it for an invited audience of family and friends!​ ​​

Acting Level 3: Be a Better Actor

Mondays: 7 - 8:45 PM    

This is a continuing exploration of intermediate to advanced acting work with all new exercises scenework. The goal of this class is to continue giving students exciting and practical new tools - and opportunities to practice these tools in exercises (scenes, monologues, and more). The idea is to help students to remove the guesswork from their scene, character, or technique choices and develop a dependable system that works for them - whether their area of interest is in theatre, film/TV, Voicework, etc. Students will be studying the techniques used by working and famous actors

Studio 55: Improv

Wednesdays: 1 - 3 PM                    

This 7-week course is made up of fun exercises, group activities, and basic scene-work. Each class, students will learn the basic tenets of improvisation such as; saying “yes, and…,” supporting their fellow improvisers, making positive choices, and most importantly building confidence while having fun and meeting new people. These valuable lessons in improv will enhance your every day life.

Acting Classes for Youth

GNAG's Youth Film-makers Course

It doesn't matter if a movie is big budget or otherwise, the talent and skills needed to make a good film are exactly the same. (We are by the way "otherwise"). In this special 8-week movie making course, students will write, act in and/or edit an original movie. You can sign up to edit, or act or direct, or all three, You tell us what you want to do! Simply register and then email john@gnag.ca to indicate what aspect of the movie making process your child wishes to be part of. Those interested in editing, must have iMovie (or other editing software) and understand the basics of editing. No previous acting experience is necessary!

Musical Theatre Showcase for ages 10 - 15

What performer doesn't want to hear the word ENCORE! after a song? With our brand new Saturday afternoon musical theatre course with veteran actor and director Shaun Toohey, students learn to work on solo and group numbers and explore their talents while also making new friends and building confidence and being creative. Whether your child randomly bursts into song or perhaps just needs theatre to find his or her voice, ENCORE! is the perfect weekend activity. This course ends with an intimate show for an invited audience.

Musical Theatre Courses for all ages

Snow melts and the heart turns to romance.  Cobbled streets invite new adventure just around the corner.  If we can't travel now, we can take a musical journey to the City of Lights. Channel the Little Sparrow, brush off your Maurice Chevalier smile and prepare for effervescence! Eleanor and Lauren coach you in ensemble singing and presentation as we explore springtime songs from musicals. 10 classes prepare you for a one night show. Set your feet dancing with this giddy celebration of spring!
